type 2 diabetes, also referred to as non-insulin dependent diabetes, can affect both adults and children. In this type of diabetes, the process through which our body metabolizes sugar or glucose is affected. Interestingly, the body of a person suffering from Type 2 diabetes can produce insulin. However, the amount of insulin that his or her pancreas produces is not enough. Sometime, the pancreas can produce enough insulin but the body cannot use it properly. This is called insulin resistance.

Anyone can suffer from Type 2 diabetes. However, overweight people, women with gestational diabetes and people having high cholesterol, high triglycerides, high blood pressure are prone to the disease. Furthermore, some factors like smoking, inactive lifestyle etc. can shoot up the risk of diabetes.
